Update on Fungal Meningitis Outbreak That Led to Pioneering Litigation by BWMK Partner Elizabeth Kaveny

The following infographic from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that since September 2012 more than 13,500 patents nationwide were placed at risk from tainted steroid injections linked to 722 cases of fungal meningitis and other infections. There have been 50 deaths from the infection outbreak. Elizabeth A. Kaveny, name partner in noted Chicago plaintiffs' law firm Burke Wise Morrissey Kaveny (BWMK), was one of the first attorneys in the country to file suit against New England Compounding Center (NECC), source of the tainted injections, on behalf of individuals who were victims. In her four pioneering cases, now assigned to federal court in Massachusetts, Ms. Kaveny is seeking monetary damages and criminal penalties against the company and its agents on behalf of her clients.
