BWMK’s Brian Monico Receives ISBA Board of Governors Award

Burke Wise Morrisey Kaveny (BWMK) Attorney Brian T. Monico received a 2014 Board of Governors Award from the Illinois State Bar Association on June 20, 2014. The presentation took place at the ISBA's 138thannual meeting at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wis.

The ISBA honored Monico and Marron A. Mahoney, an Illinois Appellate Court law clerk, who together chair its Task Force on New Lawyers. The two accepted the challenge of ISBA President Paula H. Holderman to address some of the most pressing issues facing young lawyers in the legal profession today, namely staggering law school debt and reduced employment opportunities.

The task force drafted two written reports within five months with concrete recommendations. Among the proposed ideas were developing an ISBA microsite for new lawyers and setting up a "speed mentoring" program for law student and veteran association members.

"No offense to the rest of us," Holderman recently said, "but when was the last time an ISBA task force delivered two reports in less than five months?"
